Dilemma

Dilemma Mohammad Zakki Azani

Last days, one of my friends (@dah) gave me a novel written by Paulo Coelho (The Alchemist). She recommended me to read it… (thank you before). I think, she knows about my English capability that why she gave me a good novel and simple to understand according to her standard. At first time I read was on Monday after Maghrib (26 april 2010). It was difficult to understand… and I still remember it was in prologue part. Easy for her, however, was not easy for me but I won’t throw my towel in (I said in my hearth).

“So that those who have responsibility for understanding can understand” he said (Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist, P: 82).

I try to read it twice in prologue part with leaf through the dictionary…I like Aladin who tried to see the new landscape by flying on the prayer rug (sajadah) hu hu … but he didn’t know the landscape that going to look on. Why do I describe it as Aladin?! Because in that time I was sitting on the prayer rug and enjoy my reading after praying (sholat) ups..It was not enjoy but it’s difficult…he he but I like these challenges, anyway. Reading novel with no emotionally feeling into what I read was not terrible enough. However, to come up such a enjoy reading, it will need processes. Of course, understanding the language used in the novel is the most important things to have emotionally feeling to the story…slowly but sure, my feeling getting involved to the story hu hu hu.. It was excited for me because it was the first time to read the novel written by English language even sometimes need to open up the dictionary. Anyway, thank you @dah…

“It’s only those who are persistent, and willing to study things deeply, who achieve the Master Work. That’s why I’m here in the middle of the desert. I’m seeking a true alchemist who will help me to decipher the codes.” (Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist, P: 82)

Actually, I want to focus on finishing the novel as well as to work on my thesis. But, by then, my dilemma appeared when I found book intuitively when I went to library. I still remember it happed 3 last days in the library. Firstly, I found the book in front of the toilet ehhmmm it was there on the rack in front of toilet. The book was written by Prof.DR. Fathiyyah Hasan Sulaiman. The title is “Alam Pikiran Al-Ghazali Mengenai Pendidikan dan Ilmu.” What made me bore through that book was the title of the book then I tried to leaf through the book and keep reading the acknowledgment. I feel it was wonderful book that I must read. In addition, Al-Ghazali stated in that book that (Indonesia language).

Oleh karena itu, barang siapa menduga bahwa pengamatan dan penemuan itu selalu tergantung kepada argumentasi-argumentasi, berarti dia telah menyempitkan rahmat Allah yang Maha Luas.” These words quoted from the book “Al-Munqidz minadl-dhalal” ( hal. 6)

Secondly, at the same day I found excited book written by many scholars such as Imam Ghazali, Hasan Al-Bana, Abul ‘Ala al Mawdudi, Ibn Khaldun and so forth. The book is “Islam the Way of Revival”. Surely, these books above catch me up and then make me willing to read in. but it is ok… I will read it….inshaAllah…

“When he was finally able to concentrate on what he was reading, he liked the book better…” (Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist, P:16).

Could I read those books at the same time within this week? Ehmm…. I don’t think so… but later on, hopefully, I could accomplish them. I still dreaming right now….and I do believe I can turn my dream into reality even until now I didn’t finish yet the novel and my thesis.

There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” (Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist, P: 141)

No Reading No Scratching

No Reading No Scratching

Reading is a journey...

It’s like a travelling in some areas and then trying to shoot the important things with our camera.

It’s like a journey to know things which never known before.

It’s wonderful activity to be done...

Reading is our chance to explore our life with our intellectual journey.

Never ending to learn and always try to create culture of learning surrounding us.

Grasp your habits…!!

Honestly, I am not the one who loves reading books…but after having observation and contemplation what is in surrounding me, it seems like they weak me up from my long sleeping with deep laziness. Talking about the reading books, I think, reading is simply things to do but not everyone can organize what is wandering in our mind by exploring in the notes with scratching in every single event from our reading books as well as many events happening in every corner among us.

Reading books is a habit that is popularly taken up by friends surrounding me... Consciously or unconsciously, there are many friends influence me on it such as DR. Syamsudin Arif, Hasan Darodjat, Ali Mukhtar, @d@h, and so on. But I never told them that they really teach me directly or indirectly. I want to tell special thanks for all of you….

I will tell my story in this blog. To write the events it means to train intellectual muscle with the reading. If I think that I don’t have enough time to start reading, I am wrong. How do I know? Because I make time for the things that are important to us. How much movies do I watch? How much time do I spend trawling the web? I could easily replace reading with those activities. Bismillah...My journey begins...and never ends...last but least, reading and writing force me to sit and be still...
